Virgin on the ridiculous.

This just agitates me, I don't know why exactly, it just does. There I was quietly reading an article on the U.S. Supreme Court when I turned over the page and saw this advertisement. For starters, like oil and water, Newsweek and Virgin just don't seem to go together, and then they go and throw in some sort of wine-club-thingy for good measure! The lengths that some people will go to just to be in the wine industry. I find it all very disturbing.

It's so easy to be cynical about R. Branson and his empire. I mean, let's be fair: especially in the UK, wine is so hard to obtain these days as it's only available from Tesco, Asda, Sainsbury's, Waitrose, M&S, Lidl, Morrison's, Booths, Budgens and Co-Op.

And Majestic, Oddbins, Wine Club, 7/11, Spa, Londis, Mace.

And every corner shop and pub etc etc etc....so I'm sure it deserves to be as big a success as Virgin Cosmetics, Virgin Healthcare, and Virgin F1 Racing.

Don't blame Virgin. Blame a wine industry that has overshot its market and now is awash in debased volumes of what once was considered a liquid nectar.

Like water, wine seeks its level, and there's always some entity out there looking to lap it up--for a song.

I bought some rock CDs from the gift shop at Chateau Palmer and they were crap, so I agree with your argument, kind of.

Affer: Is that all? You're positvely deprived my good man!

Thomas: I'm not a wine snob, but I do believe that wineries who produce second labels, often with critters adorning the bottle and then proceed to sell them at bargain basement prices, do somewhat cheapen the whole wine experience.

Thud: I knew you'd say that!

Ron: Yes, I'm sure they are trying to reach a whole new, and trendy, segment of the wine buying public.

Idle: Horses for courses...

Vinogirl, there are many insights to be gleaned!
As has been stated: seconds are called seconds for good reason!
