Napa nest 3.

The summer solstice came and went, but the birds around here still seem to be procreating. Stop it, Vinomaker needs to sulphur the Syrah you have woven your horse hair-lined nest into. The nest in question belongs to a California Towhee (Melozone crissalis), cute birds, but I still want my vineyard to be mildew free!

Do the birds cause mildew?

Ah, mildew free. To dream, to be, mildew free. Yes, birds are definitely a cause, as we are growing grapes for them, and we have it. But we are fighting, and there has been no time to write chapters on War & Peace In The Vineyard (which the Americans call a "blog"). But, there is time for 140 characters, which the Americans call Twitter. Therefore, Vinogirl, Vinomaker, and every one in Vinoland (including the unsinkable Thud), I invite you to Twitter, and please tweet us @bluemerlewinery or http://www.twitter.com/bluemerlewinery Furthermore, as "Super VinoGirl" is one full of very useful and practical advice, I would like to invite everyone in VINOLAND to join us on LinkedIn, where we have a Winemaker's Forum, including good folks from California, Ohio, NY/NJ, Europe (and even a vinomaker who was living in Saudi Arabia who made wine -- now that is a story). Here's the link: http://www.linkedin.com/groupSharingMsg?displayCreate=&connId=-1&groupID=784777&trk=anetsrch_share&goback=.gdr_1245990592982_1 Now, you need to be on LinkedIn to join that group ... so go get linked in and please contribute your knowledge. Concerning Twitter, I assure you, you will be able to keep your identity as the masked heroine of Vinoland hidden. With utmost regards and appreciation, your very foolish and mildewy vineyardisto. P.S. -- I heard "poochy" won 5 awards at the San Diego winemaking competition last Sunday ... stay tuned for the official results.

Nice photo. Had to look California Towhee up in my Ian Allan Book of Birds....it properly belongs to the multitudinous LBJ family. That's not to say related to a former US President, of course, rather it's a Little Brown Jobbee!

Marc: I just don't want to disturb mamma-towhee with a withering blast of sulphur and fungicide.

Craig: I barely have time to blog never mind Twitter or Linked-whatever. I'll check it out though.

Affer: And I thought those little brown jobbies were what Vinodog 2 left lying around!
