Mother Nature's composition.

It is fun driving around the valley right now because there is lots to look at. Clusters of grapes, that were green and hidden in the canopy just last week, are now easily spotted, conspicuously blushing amidst the verdant vegetation.
At the Opus One vineyard, in Oakville, veraison in the Cabernet sauvignon is well under way, despite daily temperatures being 10 to 15 degrees below normal this summer.
2010 is going to be an interesting vintage.

Opus one...good stuff even with the hype.

The word "interesting" is always an interesting choice to stand in for what one really thinks about a situation.

2010 may be a truly weird vintage--on both coasts. We are worried about the heat-sensitive Riesling grapes on this end of the world.

Thud: That 1994 was a great bottle of wine.

Thomas: Looks like 2010 will even be cooler than 1998...by all accounts this is the coolest summer in 30 years.

Phlegmmy: I like to think of them as cool purple earrings, just hanging about in the canopy!
