This is a packet of Papaver rhoeas seeds I bought when I was home in England last spring. I am going to plant them today in hopes that they bloom next summer: a reminder to me of the many, many sacrifices that countless heroic men and women have made so that I may live in peace.

NHW: The sacrifices that the military make are worth remembering. I hope my poppies bloom.
V-girl, I hope your poppies look that beautiful.
Yes, and I hope the vets who are coming home from Afghanistan and Iraq are not as badly treated as the Vietnam vets, many of whom now live on the streets of San Francisco...homeless and alone. Tortures me to see that.

ALW: It must be difficult to re-enter civilian life for any returning service-person who has seen conflict.
