A New Year Haiku.

I don't particularly enjoy reading all the pontificating on some wine blogs about the 10 best this and that of 2010. I think I am blessed with enough good sense to realise that nobody is, in the tiniest bit, interested in the things last year that were note worthy to me (although Happy Balls would feature rather high on any list I might compile.)
Instead, I'm going off on a tangent here and submitting a viticultural Haiku for your delectation. Why not? This unassuming Cabernet sauvignon bud, formed in the spring of 2010, contains all the promise of this year's coming vintage and deserves to be lauded in verse.

Hush bud, be still.
Until springtime's will
Awakens you.

A happy, healthy and wine-filled New Year to everyone.

4-5-4: perfect!

Yes, and thank you for not issuing a ten best of 2010 list--so lacking in creativity these other bloggers are.

Seems this 21st century is moving on and may it bring to you what you seek in 2011.

You have been away from liverpool far too long.

I think one of my resolutions will be to take up haiku writing. Until then:

A little older
But still looking for wisdom
And kinda thirsty

Composed by Captain Hops, featured on www.beerhaikudaily.com....and unashamedly robbed by me!

HNY!

Thomas: I dunno about that...true Haiku are supposed to be 17 syllables in Japanese. I do have a Japanese friend who could translate it for me, but I probably won't bother...it was just a bit of fun and an anti-top 10 post!
Much good health to you in 2011.

Thud: You are just jealous that you didn't write a construction one and beat me to it!

Affer: I think I may give up Haiku writing after my one and only attempt...I see I cannot compete with Captain Hops!

Thomas: Affre? I just thought you were starting to talk like us after hanging out here at Vinsanity too often. You say center and I say centre...you say theater and I say theatre...

Thomas! How did you know my real name is actually Affré?

My father got into trouble for it...starting an Affré.

You can call me Aff-
re, or you can call me aff-
er. But please, call me.

Vinogirl,

I used to get yelled at in school because I always felt that theater should read as theatre and that color looks so much better when it is colour.

We have in the US the New Yorker magazine. One of its affectations is to make believe it spells words the way Brits do. Problem is, the magazine picks only a few words, especially ones that in American English do not compound the letter l: dialing, traveling, et al, and they make it into dialling, travelling, et all.

My problem with that compounding is that it is flagrantly incorrect. The words have an ing ending--why add the extra l? No other ing ending words receive an extra consonant: screaming, crying, et a.

More important, why does the New Yorker pick only that spelling to put on an air?

Percy: Thank you for your contribution.

Thomas: You were before your time in an American school, I bet. I prefer colour too, it always means an extra point in Scrabble!
Et tu were very good with the; et al, et all and et a!

2B: Happy New Year to you and Tracey P.
I will do my best to keep you up to date on all things viticultural, after all pruning begins soon...stay tuned :)

Thomas: Of course I noticed :)

Villager: Happy New Year, it's nice to see you back on Vinsanity. And, stay warm...I remember you had quite a cold winter last year in Yorkshire!

Camilla: I was contemplating writing a oenologic themed Haiku...but alas, how could I compete with yours?

Camilla: PS - I love Slade too ;)
