First autumn rain.

A wet spring, late budbreak, a cool summer, elevated powdery mildew pressure, senescence of the vines, and now a rather untimely autumn rain. Apparently, Mother Nature gave up drinking wine in 2011 without telling anybody about it, and now it seems that she has determined to not let anyone else even consider producing a vintage this year.
My poor grapes.

It,s not looking good, lucky you have a couple of thousand bottles put by to see you over.

Hmm, that's not good, is it. Hope you manage to get something good.

Thud: It is true, there is no chance of a 'wine-drought' in Vinoland.

Jamie: The Syrah looks spectacular...apparently it ignored the difficult conditions this spring.

Was just thinking the exact opposite this morning on my 4-mile walk past various local vineyard sites.

It's Sept 26 and we are in the 80s F. Harvest is all around, as is a long maturation of the noble varieties--and the leaves remain a fair green.

In the old days, we would have ad one or two frosts by now.

Once again, Vinogirl: nice photos.

When nature fails at least you've got art... Cracking photo; the diagonal of the vine and the colour contrast are great.

Thomas: After a week of 90+ degrees, it was a bit of a shock...it's back into the high 80s now.

Cesar: Aah, if only I was artistic!

2B: Thanks.
